Improving your MPG (miles per gallon), starts with your MPG (Maintenance Preserves Gas) Inspection!

It's true....Regular professional maintenance really does preserve gas.

With fuel costs rising, it's more important than ever to do what you can to stretch your fuel mileage. Did you know that a misfiring spark plug can cut fuel efficiency by as much as 30 percent? That a clogged air filter makes your engine work harder and use more fuel? That tires under-inflated by even 1 psi can lower gas mileage? And that proper wheel alignment not only reduces tire wear and improves handling, but improves fuel economy, too?

One maintenance service that owners often neglect is an Engine Maintenance Service. Carbon build-up and deposits on intake valves and in the throttle body can cause rough idle, cold start, and poor fuel economy. Harmful deposits can be removed and dissolved with Genuine Subaru top Engine Cleaner and Genuine Subaru Throttle Plate & Induction Cleaner. Adding Genuine Subaru Fuel Injector Cleaner Fluid to the fuel tank every 3,000 miles will help keep your engine  running at its optimal efficiency.

In addition to regular professional maintenance, you can help improve your gas mileage by using common sense and driving with fuel-efficiency in mind. Here are some of the ways you can save:

FILL UP EARLY OR LATE  When you purchase your gasoline can make a difference. Try to fill up during the coolest time of the day (early morning or late evening) because that is when gasoline is more dense.

REMOVE EXCESS WEIGHT Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones, because excess weight makes your engine work harder and consume more fuel.

AVOID EXCESSIVE IDLING Excessive idling wastes gas.If you are going to bestopped for more than a minute and you're in a safe place, turn the engine off to conserve fuel.

USE CRUISE CONTROL Using cruise control on major roads helps to maintain a constant speed and, in many cases, will help to improve fuel consumption.

USE THE RECOMMENDED OCTANE RATING  You're not giving your car a treat by stepping up to premium gasoline, nor are you saving money by choosing a lower octane.

If it's not recommended in your car's manual, a lower octane can result in power loss and engine damage.
